The Girl with Kaleidoscope Eyes [explored] by carolina_sky
The Paint Mines near Colorado Springs CO. A very odd collection of hoodoos and "painted" clay, with various wild and clashing colors emerging. It was a surprisingly interesting and unique formation. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calhan_Paint_Mines_Archeological_Di... for more info about how it was formed.
I was taking a long exposure shot with the most colorful hoodoos in the post-sunset fade to blue hour and my teenage daughter walked in to the frame and stood on a distant hoodoo. I had her stand still for the remainder of the exposure so there is a non-distinct form on the horizon in the distance which I thought added an interesting touch to the picture. The title is just what popped in to my head thinking about the bizarre colors, it all looks rather psychedelic.
Explored on 8/29/2015 reaching #25. Many many thanks to all who visited, faved and commented. And yes, this is real. The colors are warmer due to the ND filter I used for a long exposure, though they are not that much different than what one would see with the naked eye. After seeing this had been cross posted to Reddit in full size, I noticed there is a lot of color fringing around the edge of the hoodoo on the left. I'll have to fix that one of these days but at the moment, enjoy with CA problems and all :-)
